Because it is fun and easy, we took a whale watching cruise from Barnstable into Cape Cod Bay. It was early in the morning and the ship was completely sold out, but spirits were high and the day was gorgeous.
It was a nice day for the beach, but I guess everyone preferred to be out on the water.
Julian's hair was the star of the day for most of the trip.
The sea was angry, like an old man sending back soup at a deli. Actually, no, obviously, it was a lovely day.
We ran into Minke whales right away. Actually, we came across porpoises first, but I didn't get any good pictures. Here are the whales.
There wasn't much action in the bay, so our ship captain pushed us out deeper into the ocean, and we were rewarded with a bunch of big whales. I don't remember now if they were humpbacks or finbacks or right whales or something else. Somebody who knows about animals should tell me so I could correct this.
Here's a little video from the day. (I tried to add music and stabilize the images, but nothing seemed to want to work, so here is the raw footage.)
Eventually the pair drifted away and we went home.
Where it was still a beautiful day for the beach.
