Our first foray out of Madrid was to the fairy-tale citadel of Toledo, about a half hour away by train. Because of the narrowness of the streets I had to shoot almost everything on a wide angle lens, so forgive the bent edges and trust that all the buildings are, indeed, straight.
Even the train station was beautiful. The blend of Islamic, Catholic, and Jewish traditions--with a healthy bit of Roman and modern arts mixed in--are apparent from the start.
The city sits on a hilltop that must have been a fun place to defend in the Middle Ages. Today it means a grueling hike to see the good stuff. Luckily, we have not been skipping leg day.
This is billed on Google maps as the World's Smallest Window. Children for scale.
The whole city is just a giant postcard, basically.
And then we found this thing. Overlooking the river is what is supposed Europe's longest urban zip line.
And there they go, flying over the Tagus River. (If the video doesn't load, try clicking on it.)
And then back to sightseeing.
